Follow the Shepherd (3min)

Article by Jerame Nelson

I believe that in 2023, God is going to increase our revelation of Jehovah-Rohi, the Lord our Shepherd from Psalm 23.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”

Psalm 23:1-3 NIV

There is no lack with those who are hanging out with their Shepherd. Start expecting to see Him, to see your miracle!

Did you know that “shepherd” appears in Scripture over 80 times? God wants to lead us into the heavenly pastures. He is leading us toward the still waters of the Holy Ghost. The Good Shepherd desires to strengthen us and restore our soul.

Jehovah-Rohi is the Protector, the Provider, the Feeder of the Flock. He is the Comforter and the Defender. King David is an incredible picture of the Good Shepherd. When a bear or lion came, David grabbed the lion by the beard and struck it in the face! Just like David, when there is one that is prowling like a roaring lion, the Shepherd strikes him down with a rod. Jehovah-Rohi is the Keeper, the Pastor, the Herder, the Friend.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 NIV

Jerame unpacks Luke 24:49 to talk about what the Bible says about waiting on the Lord — watch now!

The Good Shepherd gave His life for the sheep. That’s us- we are the sheep of His pasture. Jesus gave His life so that we can be set free from every spirit of religion, from sickness and even from ourselves. We can be more critical about ourself than anyone. When you feel this happening, start hanging out with Jesus. Listen to what He’s saying about you and repeat it back to yourself. Stop speaking your opinion over your life. Speak God’s opinion over your life! Your setback could be your setup for a miracle. There is a Shepherd that wants to give you favor and be your Keeper.

The Shepherd wants to give you food and drink-the Word and the Spirit. We need both. If you just have the Word, you can be mean and if you just have the spirit, you can be flaky. Intimacy with God and devouring the Word is the perfect balance. Sometimes the greatest warfare we can participate in is for us to step out of the way and let God fight. When you sit with the Lord, that’s when you’re truly fed. When chaos breaks out, go for walk or go by yourself and spend time with the Good Shepherd. Get in the Word. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6)

“If you are not disciplined--and everyone undergoes discipline--then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.” Hebrews 12:8 NIV

We need the Shepherd of our soul to lead us to the still waters and cleanse us and strengthen our soul. God wants to take you out of the confinement out of what everyone else thinks. The Good Shepherd corrects. He will bring you to the green pastures and He loves you so much that He will correct you, as he does to all true sons and daughters. He corrects us from that place of love. Perfect love casts down fear. (1 John 4:18) I believe God is raising up disciplers of others that follow the footsteps of the Good Shepherd. They will disciple out of love, not out of control.

Keep It Simple…

Jehovah-Rohi is your Shepherd, your Keeper, your Defender and your Provider. Spend time with Him today and let Him lead you to green pastures and the still waters. Let Him be your Defender and feel Him restore your soul!
